Little Paper Rose 2012 Overview

INACTIVE
The last few months work has been overwhelming for me; I wouldn't know where to begin with that but what I do know is that I miss reading and discovering awesome books. Finding the time as much as being in the right state of mind to being able to sit down and focus on a book hasn't been doable and I hope to change that.

LAST YEAR
I was greatly satisfied with the amount of reading I managed to do through 2012 (considering and compared to prior years of my life) and I would've kept on in the same pace if that'd been an option; however I did come across a few books I really loved.

FAVORITE BOOKS OF 2012
Everneath (#1) by Brodi Ashton
(Beautifully original, took me by total surprise)
Sweet Evil (#1) by Wendy Higgins
(Could very possibly be my favorite of the favorites)
Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver
(Had me mesmerized; fantastically thought-provocative)
Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally
(Outside-the-box, unexpected YA romantic read)
Shatter Me (#1) - Tahereh Mafi
(Blew my mind despite all odds)

LEFT OUT
Books that were read but never reviewed due to 1) excessive time passed between finishing the book and getting around to review it, or 2) lack of thoughts or opinions:
'Fixing Delilah' by Sarah Ockler (a so-so read, unfortunately did not grab my attention)
'Firelight' by Sophie Jordan (all-around okay read)
'Pyxis' by K.C Neal (wasn't into it and had very little to say)

Left unfinished:
'Hush Hush' by Becca Fitzpatrick - hope to pick it up someday again.

(LONG PAUSE)
I will be back. Oh, yes, I will! I just wanted to thank you authors who have kept getting in touch with me regarding book reviews and such (many apologies if I haven't been able to get back to you), and finally thanks to YOU for reading this and/or reading my reviews.

Love,
LPR

E-books, real books, loving books, and stuff

Eeee. Hi.

So there are three reasons why I haven't posted anything in nearly a month:

1) I went on vacation
2) and the internet connection was.. I don't want to talk about it
3) prior to said vacation I decided to get my nails all long and French.. and I ended up unable to type because they were so long and French

But I'm back on track!

I currently have five reviews just waiting to be published. We're talking:

Such a Rush by Jennifer Echols
Everneath by Brodi Ashton
Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler
Love Story by Jennifer Echols
Fixing Delilah by Sarah Ockler

And here's something weird. For the last six years vacations have been the time I've read the most. And I'm talking ninety-nine-point-nine percent of the books I read all year. But this time it was different. Half the number of books I've planned to read this year I've already read and I ended up only reading these five books while on vacation, which was just one book more than being one book a week. And I kind of read three of the books in one week and had the other two spread out really long for the rest of my vacation.

I don't know why this is.

Yes, I do.

This Christmas I started reading on my iPad, purchasing e-books through Amazon. This, to me, has been amazing. See, where I live I have no access to any proper bookstores. Definitely no bookstores selling YA fiction. Most definitely no bookstores selling YA fiction that are up-to-date.

So my iPad and the Kindle app have given me the opportunity to read as much as I want (to the extent of my paycheck anyway.) And for the last seven months I've gotten so comfortable with it. All books in one place. Flipping pages by the tap of a finger. Not having to worry about reading lamps, creased spines, wrinkled pages, or space for books. And it seems I read e-books much faster and easier.

But man, I love bookstores.

I love timelessly wandering around a bookstore. I love how peaceful it is. I love seeing an actual, physical book cover. I love that everything is brighter, bigger, and more beautiful. I love that new-book smell - fresh and crisp. I love leaving a bookstore with a bag full and heavy of imagination.

I love dog-earing, I just do. I'm a terrible dog-earer. I love knowing how far you're in a book judging from the thickness of pages you have left on your right hand. I love the sight of a book on my nightstand or in my purse. I love imagining my own library one day with books I've read from floor to ceiling.

All of this I realized after having read off of a device for seven months and visiting a much beloved bookstore overseas. But without this device and today's technology I would go seven months without being able to read anything. So I love the fact that I can read and purchase books anytime, anywhere, off of a device.

Basically just loving books.

Don't mind me.

Reviews coming! xo
